OCS Course Codes [E-lert for Feb. 17, 2011]

OCS course codes can be found on the NCVPS website in the Course Catalogue. Below is some additional information that may be helpful to share with your NC Wise Data Managers.
The new codes for OCS have been entered into eSIS production with the academic level of '0" and a start date of 7/1/2010.

9210Z - OCS English I
9211Z - OCS English II
9221Z - OCS Algebra I
9232Z - OCS Biology

Please communicate with your data managers that the courses with the 'Z' as the 5th character are only to be used for NCVPS courses taught at the 0 academic level.

Grade Corrections - Fall 2010 [E-lert for Feb. 11, 2011]

We are making final grade changes and corrections this weekend. Due to inclement weather, many districts arranged for students to have extended time to complete their courses. Look for the correct final grade report on Monday, February 14.

North Carolina Virtual Public School, through its Leadership and Innovation division, offers the GO LIVE Innovation Initiative. GO LIVE stands for Getting Organized to Lead Innovatively for Virtual Education. This initiative engages Leading Edge Districts in 21st century conversations in order to lead innovatively, build leadership capacity, and further SBOE 21st Century Learning Goals. To that end, NCVPS offers four levels of servicing options, the Four C’s of Innovation. They included Comprehensive, Component, Collaborative, and Customizable. Please watch this short video that outlines each option and an integrated portfolio approach for school districts participating as a GO LIVE Leading Edge District.

Enrollment Report [E-lert for Feb. 11, 2011]

Run your enrollment report to see which students you have enrolled and which students were waitlisted and did not get into a course.

You will also find student usernames and passwords and teacher contact information plus teacher information needed for your data manager.

Enrollment Updates [E-lert for Feb. 11, 2011]

Credit Recovery
Credit Recovery enrollment has been extended through February 11th. You may still enroll students directly through the registratoin system until that time.

EMERGENCY ADDS
Emergency adds ended on Friday, Feburary 4th, at 5 p.m. No students may be added to traditional courses at this time.

TRANSFERS
Students may still transfer into NCVPS courses. To transfer in, a student MUST be enrolled in the course with a face-to-face instructor, and the student MUST have a passing grade to transfer into the course. Contact your VLC to request a transfer. Students can transfer in until the beginning of the last quarter of the course.

Keep an Eye on LEO Students [E-lert for Feb. 11, 2011]

Keep a close eye on students taking LEO courses. Ensure they are logging in daily. As with all courses, these first weeks are critical to their success.

LEO courses are created and taught by NC Community Colleges & iSchool. Both of these organizations must adhere to SACS accreditation standards which require that students be allowed to drop courses through the middle of the semester. Each high school must decide how to handle LEO drops. Better for the student to drop a course than generate a college transcript with a failing grade.

Is your school system interested in getting more students involved in Learn and Earn Online but you have more questions/concerns than answers? I'll be happy to visit, answer questions, discuss policy implications, anything I can do to assist.

Enrollment of Non-Public Students [E-lert for Feb. 11, 2011]

NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL ENROLLMENTS AND BILLING
ATTENTION SCHOOL FINANCE OFFICERS, DLA'S AND DLC'S:

The North Carolina State Board of Education (SBE) passed a new policy in the summer 2010 allowing local education agencies (LEAs) to enroll non-public school students into online courses offered by the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) and to collect fees for such enrollments.

The recommendation from the SBE for fees is outlined in the documents below. In addition, we have supplied school districts with sample invoices.

Each of these documents will need to be listed below this text for districts to download. Please put them in this order . .
